For 10 years, Malene Bendtsen has helped experts and thought leaders write and publish nonfiction books.

She has made increasingly use of AI to edit books - or rather should we say, she tried.

While generic LLMs like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Anthropic work ok for short pieces of text and generic descriptions that aren't unique to the author, they aren't intended to write long-form texts like books. She tested many, many tools - and did not find something that was designed specifically for nonfiction books, and nothing for authors of this caliber.

Malene has always been interested in technology and was previously head of innovation of one of Scandinavia's biggest insurance companies. She also studied technology for a few years. In 2023, she published 'NextGen Author' about how the publishing industry is a major candidate for disruption - and how blockchain technology might be heading that way. She also explored NFTs and even published the book as an NFT. In the book, there was also a chapter on how authorship should be reimagined, which also focused on technology: interactive digital formats - and AI.

This was not the first time Malene dived into the possibilities of AI. She already did so in an innovation project in 2008. She always had an eye for disruption. Back then, she prototyped an idea bank that actually paid "interest" on ideas by enriching the original idea with knowledge - powered by AI (Watson).

At the end of 2024, she received the InnoFounder grant and started building BookPilot.

She is now in the first round of raising capital to scale the team.
